“I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” - John 16:33, NIV
For years, I have leaned on this verse and held tight to these words of
Jesus. “In Me you may have peace.” Yes, I want peace. I want peace in my
heart and peace in my life. And Jesus tells the Disciples they can find this
peace in the things that He has told them. Today, we can find peace in the
words written in red in our Bibles.
This verse comforts me in times of trouble and sorrow. Following Jesus
does not mean we will not have difficult times. But it does mean we can
“take heart”! There is comfort and relief through Jesus Christ. The Prince of
Peace has overcome the world.
Jesus spoke these words at the end of His ministry on Earth. It was on the
night that He washed His disciples’ feet, the night of the Last Supper, the
night He was betrayed, and the night He was arrested.
In the Advent season, as I prepared and anticipated the coming of Christmas
and the beginning of Jesus’ life on Earth, I stayed mindful of the peace offered
near the end of His life on Earth.
Prayer: Father, Thank You for loving us so much that You gave us
your only Son, and that in Him we may have peace in this troubled world.
In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
